I, too, started in a different genre than YA and ended up with my third book being told from a year-old boys POV and having the story revolve around him.

It is exciting to see a work in progress take its own direction.

I am currently working on my next book and it is YA all the way from the start. Writing YA is so refreshing that we can look back to those years and draw emotion from our own memories. Thanks for the interview. I admire your decision step away from screenwriting to craft a book in the YA genre.

Another story is Jane's alcoholism and Davey's desire to help her get sober. Also, in three different parts Davey describes the evening her father was shot and killed, which causes her in the beginning of the book to completely freak out when Jason experiences a nosebleed from the altitude. She carries a paper bag with her, which is revealed to contain the clothing she was wearing when she found her father and held him until he died; the clothing was soaked with his blood.
