I felt that the characters didn't get enough development in many cases It was written in first person. This can be good, but here the writing actually made it difficult to empathize with any of the characters.
The writing and narrative style just never engaged me enough to make me care about the characters And the worst part was that it felt somewhat derivitive. There were times I almost felt like I had read the story before and since I wasn't engaged with any of the characters due to the narrative style, I found the story dull.
It is an interesting interpretation of the basic plot, but overall I've read better stories. I can't really recommend this to anyone. There is some talent in the writing, but the lack of engagement disappointed me. I have not yet finished this book, and might not finish it at all. The Immense problem that I have with it is it's depiction of the asteroid belt.
Reality is not Star Wars, in reality the asteroid belt is not so thickly covered with rubble that their are only a few passes through it.

The idea that asteroids are so packed together that they form shoals and reefs and that their orbital trajcetories are so unstable as to change frequently is the very worst of 30's pulp fiction. It was known to be untrue even then Strongly recommend that you try the sample before buying. If reasonably accurate scientific fact and well understood newtonian physics is not a hang-up for you, you might even enjoy it. As for me, Glaring science errors poison any SF novel however good the writing or the adventure.
If the novel is fantasy maybe, but not SF.
