Last played in Comments, dates, posts etc etc. Incredible song and actually really IS up there with Hank Sr. As good a song as Dylan has written so far. I always thought the second verse about holding mountains only works as double-entendre - the original metaphor is actually pretty lame, I feel. Its so great because its so true.

I was chatting with guy who lives above me yesterday and he was telling me how he's having a hard time since his girlfriend left him recently. Said he wasn't keen on her to start with, kept playing it cool, then just as he was really getting into her, she dumped him. Poor guy. The Hard Rain version is okay I guess, but it's a little too ploddingly bombastic and shouty for my tastes. It sounds just about like most everything else from that tour. The pure simplicity and elegance of the album version is key for me. The first few seconds of guitar work make me incredibly nostalgic and I have no idea why Here's the Cash-TV version.
I've gone around for the best sound to be found. Compression added for Gen-D.
Both are excellent, the former being one of the best Dylan covers I've heard. I find it oversung, as much of his material has been since about I am a big fan of Nashville Skyline. I was beginning to despair that I was the only one. It gets trashed so much, it seems.
But I'm glad other Dylan fans appreciate it for the country masterpiece in the vein of Hank Sr, that it is. I totally agree with marker and smoke's assessments of the HR version and what smoke said about "Threw It All Away" and "Idiot Wind" on that recording being "the real deal".

BTW, "Peggy Day", another one of my faves. It is indeed a very simple, beautiful and truthful song that I think everybody can relate to. This is one of my favorite tracks from Nashville Skyline - a fabulous song along with Girl from the North Country.

Much of his most celebrated work dates from the s, when he became a reluctant "voice of a generation" with songs such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are a-Changin'" which became anthems for the Civil Rights Movement and anti-war movement. In , he controversially "went electric", branching out from his earlier work and alienating some fans of the American folk music revival, recording a six-minute single, "Like a Rolling Stone," which enlarged the scope of popular music.

Featured lyrics. I once held her in my arms She said she would always stay But I was cruel I treated her like a fool I threw it all away. Once I had mountains in the palm of my hand And rivers that ran through ev'ry day I must have been mad I never knew what I had Until I threw it all away.
Love is all there is, it makes the world go around Love and only love it can't be denied No matter what you think about it You just won't be able to do without it Take a tip from one who's tried. So if you find someone that gives you all of her love Take it to your heart, don't let it stray For one thing that's certain You will surely be a-hurtin' If you throw it all away. Share lyrics.
